Teaching gardening to children is my passion. It's fun for me and for every child I have ever taught. Simply digging in the dirt, watering and watching their plants grow is amazingly entertaining to children. The light in their eyes when they encounter their first worm or see a seedling sprout from the seed they planted feeds my spirit as well as theirs. Gardening classes educate children about the importance of plants to our lives, foster an understanding of biodiversity and stress the necessity of conservation and thoughtful management of the living world. My goal is to improve your child’s understanding of the interrelationships within natural systems by encouraging broad analytical and critical thinking. Gardening is a fantastic way for kids to improve their knowledge and problem solving skills, all while having a whole lot of fun! My gardening practices are based on sustainability. Your children will participate in all phases of these gardening practices. We plant, tend and harvest vegetables, herbs and flowers in a natural environment. Children learn to fertilize plants and control pests without the use of chemicals. Rainwater collection techniques, composting, mulching and propagation are parts of the process of gardening in a sustainable manner. Each gardening session is a new experience. Whether we are painting our homegrown goards to make birdhouses or eating broccoli freshly cut from our garden or making butterfly habitats, we have fun. |
